Anthem: Release times, cross platform, system requirements, and everything we know so far

BioWare's Anthem game is a shared-world shooter that promises to blend thrilling group combat with a compelling personal story—oh, and you're basically Iron Man. Since it was first announced at E3 2017, Anthem has stood out thanks to its gorgeous graphics and punchy combat, but there's still a lot of questions left to answer.
When does Anthem release? What are Anthem's system requirements? When does the Anthem beta start? Here's everything we know so far, including details of the story, combat, and loads more.

What is the Anthem release date?

Anthem's release date is February 22, 2019.
After initially being slated for a Q4 2018 release, Anthem was delayed to this year. Those who subscribe to Origin Access Premiere, which costs around $15 or less per month and gets you access to a big vault of Origin games, can play Anthem early, starting on February 15, 2019.

What time does Anthem release?

For those subscribed to Origin Access Basic and Premiere, Anthem's servers go live a week early. The servers will be live at the following times:
  • 7am PT
  • 10am ET
  • 3pm UK
  • 4pm CET
For everyone else, Anthem releases on February 22 a week later at the following times:
  • 9pm PT on February 21
  • 12am ET
  • 5am UK
  • 6am CET

When can I pre-load Anthem?

Anthem is a whopping 51GB download, so you'll probably want to start that process now rather than waste time once the servers are actually up. The good news is that the pre-load is already available for everyone who has pre-ordered the digital version and Origin Access Premiere subscribers. Those using Origin Access Basic will have to wait until February 15 to pre-load.
To do that, all you need is to open Origin, find Anthem in your library (or on the store front) and hit the button to start the download. Easy.

What are Anthem's system requirements?

Anthem's system requirements are as follows.
Anthem minimum system requirements
  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10
  • Processor: Intel Core i5 3570 or AMD FX-6350
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics card: Nvidia GTX 760, AMD Radeon 7970
  • GPU RAM: 2 GB
  • Storage: At least 50 GB of free space
Anthem recommended system requirements:
  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10
  • CPU: Intel Core i7 4790 3.6 GHz or AMD Ryzen 3 1300X 3.5 GHz
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • GPU: Nvidia GTX 1060/RTX 2060, AMD RX 480
  • GPU RAM: 4 GB
  • Storage: At least 50 GB of free space

Will Anthem cross platform play be possible?

No, Anthem cross platform play won't be possible—not at launch, at least. BioWare's Mark Darrah confirmed on Twitter that Anthem won't have any cross platform functionality (no taking your saves from PC to PS4 or being able to play with your console friends, for example) at launch but doesn't specify whether that could change in the future.

What is the latest Anthem news?

As we get closer to Anthem's release date of February 22, 2019, more and more information about the game is becoming known.
Last week, lead producer Ben Irving and senior level designer Emily Taylor played Anthem with some other developers for roughly an hour. You can watch the video below, but there were some interesting takeaways from the demo.
  • There's an artificial limit on how high you can fly.
  • There are six difficulty modes: easy, normal, hard, and three tiers of 'grandmaster.'
  • The higher the difficulty mode, the more HP and damage monsters do but the higher quality of loot you'll receive
The livestream is worth watching to get a better sense of how combat works—especially on harder difficulties. Playing on hard, the team struggles to stay alive in several encounters against various elite-tier enemies. You'll also get a closer look at Javelin customization, how loot works, and more.
